OUR THOUGHTS.....
Today in class we were given an assignment where we have to read articles, and state our feelings, and opinions. The first topic I chose to talk about is “Black. Female. Accomplished. Attacked” this article spoke nothing but volumes. And here’s why.

“Black Female Accomplished Attacked is about us African American steady being judged. No matter what job title you may hold we are still in a world that only consists of us being less then who we are. An active member of the first black sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha talked about how appalled she was when she read that the first African American president wife was on the cover of a magazine as the “angry black women”, this was because she had made an unpatriotic remark 20 years ago. First of all this to me is highly disrespectful. One, America needs to know that there is no “perfect American life”. We live in an opinionated world and everyone is not perfect. Because she made one little comment she was presented as the mad women, and because her husband was a candidate of being the next president she had to “reform” herself as having this perfect American life. You see no one notices the ACCOMPLISHMENTS us African Americans do. Half of the things “white” and “black” people use today was in fact invented by an AFRICAN AMERICAN. Think about it this way what would America be without African Americans? Benjamin Banneker the FIRST African American who invented the clock, or how about Garret A. Morgan who invented the gas mask, and the traffic signal? We never get recognized for our triumphs, but also for our opinions. She also stated how women are stereotype by “the videos”. Most hip hop videos have African American women dressed sexually provocative, so because they are dressed this way we all are sexually and provocative women? So what is “playgirl” men who are completely naked on a cover of a magazine, and they don’t get stereotyped? We are dominate species with out us half of these “stereotype” comments wouldn’t even be stated without a “WOMEN” giving birth. There are plenty of doctors, lawyers, police women, actresses, retaliators, teacher, preachers, we do it all! Do not judge by what you only see in a video, or even an old comment, whether we were in a storm, we always make it!

Next our second article was about texting while driving. Now honestly I think it’s bad to do it but honestly by banning it do the government really believes people will stop texting, or even talking on the phone while driving? Now this article wasn’t bad at all, in fact it made a lot of sense, so that would be my pro, but the con would be is How can you even ban an situation like this when you won’t even be able to see in someone’s car if they are texting while driving? Either way people can still get away with it because there are no devices in ones car that indicates whether they are driving while texting. So honestly I think that this isn’t dumb, but how would they know if someone is texting in their car? Because of an accident perhaps, but how can people determined that? So my thing is really I do not know how will they make this, this article was very good with facts and opinions but at the same time we half to face reality.

“WET or DRY “campus, Here’s a very debatable topic. Only for one reason only, no matter what we do, we cannot control someone else actions. The pro of this would be that It is a good idea to have a wet campus because students are already in their dorms, which will prevent drunk driving accidents. But the con of this would be, because they are drinking on campus wouldn’t they get to the extreme point of drinking, and get into a violent fight, that will expel a student? Another thing is whether they make it a dry campus or not people are still going to do what they want. For example Johnson & Wales University is a dry campus. Now we do have students who are 21 that are legally to drink, how will the campus board know that a student enrolled at JWU had a couple of drinks in there room? It’s not that hard to get liquor on campus, so it would defiantly will not be hard to drink in your dorms. This was a good article with facts and opinions but as I stated before we cannot control people actions.

Last article was ‘Starbucks goes stealth with unbranded, “Local” Cafes. This article kinds of reminds me of the previous wet or dry campus. Going local I believe is a good thing because the business in your neighborhoods always have what you want, and just like any business they are there to help and satisfy their customers. With the economy the way it is many businesses are going out of business, because people go elsewhere spend more than they were suppose to at other stores, when you have one in your neighborhood, and if you show your face get to know the owner, I bet you can get discounts on goods. With starbucks using an local unbranded that just justify that you can go to your local neighborhood and get the same thing that you would purchase at starbucks. Its not always about the brand name it’s the quality.
Out of all four of these the one that I feel personally that would be a great topic to debate about would most definitely be the women stereotype. Because in the article it has great valuable points!

is GOOGLE evil?
As I read this article, honestly just by the title I disagree. Writer Matt Marrone talked about how Google a threat to our society. To explain this is that really what Marrone was saying is that Google tracks everything we type and stores it. So from this he is saying that any important database that we have Google has it stored. Now this is where I say maybe this would be a problem, but think about it our schools, or jobs has our social security number, just that important information you can have anything about me, from the time I was born till the future. So how is Google harm to us? No matter what network site comes we can never handle or predict the outcome. Everyone is going to over use a website, take Myspace for example, Myspace was suppose to be a place for friends where you create a personal profile, with pics, videos, and more. But then you have sexual pedophiles that will copy and paste these pictures, and use it for there satisfaction, so technically no website base is really good. Now don’t get me wrong, some of the files Google probably saves is very confidential, but millions of people use Google, because it is an constantly used web base people do tend to ask the same questions. So of course Google will keep a copy of what the other person asked instead of making a whole new search, it would already be there. Marrone did had a lot of facts, but this is his opinion and if he had any statistics that maybe others felt the same way, or a major problem that happen when they used the Google search bar then that would had sealed the article.

MUCH TO DO BEFORE TIEING THE KNOT
What is Love? No one would be able to explain it, you can only live it. Meaning you and this significant other only see each other. There is no one else in this world that can take his or her place. Even when you guys split no matter what he or she always has your heart, no matter what the differences are. Now this author made a good point about young adults getting married at a young age. He had statistics, and expert testimony in his article that made it more informative to the readers that supported his facts. His facts was showing that young relationships hardly works out, now image a marriage? We tend to jump into anything when we feel that its right at the moment, but being married cant go by moments, it should be thought about in a long term thinking process. You are going to spend the rest of your years with this one person. And with young adults we change our minds about EVERYTHING. We cant even go to college and have a steady major, we are constantly changing. I think this author may had a hands on experience with being married at a young age with it not working. So if he had this is another reason why his article was good. He was going for more of a logical appeal to the audience, meaning everything is not going to be a happy ending, and you wouldn't want to rush into things, we have time!

MY thoughts about IMMIGRATION
My side of immigration would be that the United States should make it easier on immigrants, simply because the United States of America is the Land of the Free. There motto is to welcome in any and everyone for a chance of freedom. This freedom does not come with discrimination.
Here is a video about illegal immigration Illegal Immigration is one of the most divisive issues in America today. Pinky asks Daisy for his take on what's really going on. Added bonus: Daisy tells us how to solve the whole problem in 5 min...
When watching this video even made a lot of sense. Instead of the government going back and forth whether having immigrations here or making them leave. there is always an alternative. It talks about how compassion is lacked. Most immigrants have came from broken down homes, why would they hurt Americans? This video also went into detail for those who do not know excatly how serious this problem is with the government. It went from with the Indians and English Americans. So much history.
Honestly this is just sad. You have ordinary people that simple want to make a better life for them selves and their families, and its a problem just beacause of their nationality. Only God can judge really who is the government? They take money from the poor and give to the riches. My family is from Jamaica. My mom is from West Ma-land and my dad is from Kingston. Because most of my family has green cards. or they just have been living here for a long amount of time they are now considered as an American. But the things they have to go through just to work over here is just ridiculous. This to me is just a re-play when Adolf Hitler put the Jews in concentration camps because they did not have blue eyes and blonde hair. Really? Adolf Hitler did not even have those features. Its a shame how others can just make other lives miserable. and they call this AMERICA land of the free?

Changing our WORLD with our minds, and TOPICS.
On December 10, 2009 my advance english class presented their ideas in whether what we should talk about throughout our trimester. And honestly I felt that everyone had good topics and supporting information.
Timonty Jones, my young black liberal republican.Has explained that for one of our topics we should express on the fact that troops our across the world fighting for a war, and who knows when will they return back. He is 100% behind Obama. I felt his powerful speech. Well done! My comment on this is that we need to speak about whats happening. We all are becoming independent people and we need to be educated on whats going on in the world. So I felt that it was a very good topic, and great picture as well.
John Smith, another well educated brother. Has expressed that we should allow people who are elderly sick to be able to take their own lives. My comment on this is that the bible said that suicide is an ultimate sin. Whether they are suffering they should not be able to take their own lives. God has his own reason for why they are sick, and when he will enf it. So I do not agree with John's topic at all. One good thing is that he had a lot of facts to support his theory in why this should be consider.
Tacara Smith, a young lady touched upon scholarships and that it should be equal to everyone. I felt that being in a university and paying so much money, really I feel that education should not even have a price. Education is the key to success we should not have to pay for it. But I understand what Tacara was saying, at the same time scholarships are in fact open to everyone, race, background, etc. So im not excatly sure what she really wants us to consider in talking about. She can change her topic and talk about that education should not be price tagged.
Brooke, who talked about dog fighting and why we should not allow it, and any one who support dog fighting should be delt with. I feel the same way to Brooke. Dogs are as much as humans as we are and to beat or let them abuse each other is a disgrace. Great job!
Camillo Blanco, decieded to speak about our eating habits. SeaFood, and we should be pre-cautious of what we are eating.Seafood. I understand what Camillo was talking about but people do what they want. No matter how hard we stress whats good or bad, people have their own decisions. But I understand excatly where he was coming from.
Robert & Viesther, a team speech about a number 1 problem with not only teens but adults as well. Texting while Driving. This is another topic that I agreed with. But this is another one that would be hard to convice people to stop. We are not in the car with everyone so again people do have the right to do what they want even if its a death trap. But i am strongly with this and believe there should be an end to it.
Stephaine, spoke about whether we should be against or for long distance relationships. She is for it but what is our view on it.I am not with this topic. There are ways to be killed in situations as these. Even if you and this person been talking for such a extended amount of time, anything can happen once you guys meet up.
Alcia & T, spoke about a topic that will always be a problem. Women Sterotype.POWERFUL WOMEN. I loved this topic because I am Fact a women and feel sterotype all the time. Because I am an all-star cheerleader I am expected to be prissy and "blonde" cheerleading is my passion. Should a male be sterotyped because he decides that he wants to be a nurse? well done girls!
Alcia & Derek, also spoke on a topic where day to day issues consists of this which is immagrationGood topic, in todays world we have lots of immagrants and they are being treated unfairly. So I did enjoy this speech.
Kevin & James, presentation was about that we should have a campus bar at Johnson&Wales University.Im not so sure about this. This will be a good topic though to discuss in class because this is opening a lot of opinions and how people feel of having a bar. My question is who would run it? an outsider? You would need a liecense to do this.
Joeliz, another sterotyping topic, but about being unemployedOnce again being sterotyped. Being unemployed is in fact very depression. I was unemployed for about 3 months and now I work at Aldos Collections a shoe store. People lose alot, homes, family, cars etc. I understand this topic alot. As well with the economy is very weak we might be in the same catogory when graduation comes. This will be a good topic because this can also switch and be discussed on our future.
Asley, staying in local businesses and buying products from your local business men. This was very good. This as well ties into in unemployment if people still buy things from other places, others loose their business. so this was good, in being considerate to others
Alvin, another sterotyping but in the Greek community. Touched that greeks do not just partying and act in a non presentable manner. They are here to do community service and most if the functions we attend to they are in fact provided by a greek organization.Good topic another sterotyping because of pictures seen in different greek organizations. They are in fact a community service groups, and if people want to know they must do there research and know about greeks and what they do.
Alexia, talked about sex ed. and how its a life changing. With the things that people carry you should want to be safe.Sex education is hard to get points across. Yes this is a good idea but convincing people is a hard thing to do, with facts pictures, it gets them in at the place and time, but when they are in that position you never know, things happen and they got caught up. So I believe this but its hard to get people to really understand the risks that they are taking.
Jasmine, spoke about equal rights in federal prison and state prison.Being in prison they must have done something they werent suppose to. Why do you feel they should be treated fairly? You have rapist, killers all kinds of people in there, and because they cant smoke its a problem? I dont feel that they should be treated fairly, should they get beat no, but other things they should not be able to do, because they did something they werent suppose to to even get them in that position and they must suffer the consequences.
The five that I voted for is Timothy Jones, because of todays news we need to know whats going on and Obama's plan to what his next moves will be and our opinions about it.
Second would be Alicia and T because women are always being sterotyped all the time and if we are why cant men cant? This is NOT a males WORLD.
Third would be Joeliz being unemployed because in case everyone knew with a degree or not we might not be able to get the jobs we want because it is so limited.
Fourth would be John Smith because we should not let others kill their selves even if they are suffering. Thats God's job.
and Last but not least ME. which my topic was Why is fashion consider a major. we should talk about this because this also ties into sterotyping. If I chose fashion as being my major then it should not be a problem. But little do people know you are in fact drawed into fashion, whether its clothes or not technology also plays a big part in fashion example a i-phone is fashionable. It is a new and update item that everyone must have. So this should be a topic and as well everyone's opinion to it.
Overall everyone did good. Everyone has good topics and are very serious about the one they choose to do. I respect everyones ideas!! WELL DONE CLASS!

the love for fashion.
Is fashion a real major? This has been the ultimate question that everyone seems to ask. When I hear this question I respond "What is YOUR definition of fashion?" When this question is ask the answer seems to always be "clothes"? Negative. First Fashion is in FACT a real major. Believe it or not its the truth. Everyone seems to think that fashion only consists of clothes. Wrong again, fashion is art. Art that people with amazing eye site will only be able to see.“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”- coco chanel(http://thinkexist.com/quotes/coco_chanel/) You see fashion is all around you. Without fashion what would our world consist of? Lawyers? How will you be an professional lawyer with no fabrics to wear a suit? How will you be a football player with no ball, because it has no stiching? What would you sleep with if there wasnt someone to use cotton to make a blanket? wouldnt you freeze? Everything we use, has something to do with fashion. Either its made with nylon, polyester, silk, cotton, or even a blend. Fashion is not only about clothes. Its the way of life. Designers get their inspiration of mother's nature, bulidings, the sun,the stars, everthing. As a fashion major I have seen so much more in so many ways that fashion has an impact on. The magazines that people read daily those are fashion editors. Fashion is a business, just like a Police man. They protect us. and fashion majors..........we entertain you....we amaze you.....we clothe you....glamour you....you are our projects....we keep styles coming pieces to amaze you colors to inspire you....FASHION IS LIFE....LIFE i LIVE FOR.
