OUR THOUGHTS.....

Today in class we were given an assignment where we have to read articles, and state our feelings, and opinions. The first topic I chose to talk about is “Black. Female. Accomplished. Attacked” this article spoke nothing but volumes. And here’s why.

“Black Female Accomplished Attacked is about us African American steady being judged. No matter what job title you may hold we are still in a world that only consists of us being less then who we are. An active member of the first black sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha talked about how appalled she was when she read that the first African American president wife was on the cover of a magazine as the “angry black women”, this was because she had made an unpatriotic remark 20 years ago. First of all this to me is highly disrespectful. One, America needs to know that there is no “perfect American life”. We live in an opinionated world and everyone is not perfect. Because she made one little comment she was presented as the mad women, and because her husband was a candidate of being the next president she had to “reform” herself as having this perfect American life. You see no one notices the ACCOMPLISHMENTS us African Americans do. Half of the things “white” and “black” people use today was in fact invented by an AFRICAN AMERICAN. Think about it this way what would America be without African Americans? Benjamin Banneker the FIRST African American who invented the clock, or how about Garret A. Morgan who invented the gas mask, and the traffic signal? We never get recognized for our triumphs, but also for our opinions. She also stated how women are stereotype by “the videos”. Most hip hop videos have African American women dressed sexually provocative, so because they are dressed this way we all are sexually and provocative women? So what is “playgirl” men who are completely naked on a cover of a magazine, and they don’t get stereotyped? We are dominate species with out us half of these “stereotype” comments wouldn’t even be stated without a “WOMEN” giving birth. There are plenty of doctors, lawyers, police women, actresses, retaliators, teacher, preachers, we do it all! Do not judge by what you only see in a video, or even an old comment, whether we were in a storm, we always make it!

Next our second article was about texting while driving. Now honestly I think it’s bad to do it but honestly by banning it do the government really believes people will stop texting, or even talking on the phone while driving? Now this article wasn’t bad at all, in fact it made a lot of sense, so that would be my pro, but the con would be is How can you even ban an situation like this when you won’t even be able to see in someone’s car if they are texting while driving? Either way people can still get away with it because there are no devices in ones car that indicates whether they are driving while texting. So honestly I think that this isn’t dumb, but how would they know if someone is texting in their car? Because of an accident perhaps, but how can people determined that? So my thing is really I do not know how will they make this, this article was very good with facts and opinions but at the same time we half to face reality.

“WET or DRY “campus, Here’s a very debatable topic. Only for one reason only, no matter what we do, we cannot control someone else actions. The pro of this would be that It is a good idea to have a wet campus because students are already in their dorms, which will prevent drunk driving accidents. But the con of this would be, because they are drinking on campus wouldn’t they get to the extreme point of drinking, and get into a violent fight, that will expel a student? Another thing is whether they make it a dry campus or not people are still going to do what they want. For example Johnson & Wales University is a dry campus. Now we do have students who are 21 that are legally to drink, how will the campus board know that a student enrolled at JWU had a couple of drinks in there room? It’s not that hard to get liquor on campus, so it would defiantly will not be hard to drink in your dorms. This was a good article with facts and opinions but as I stated before we cannot control people actions.

Last article was ‘Starbucks goes stealth with unbranded, “Local” Cafes. This article kinds of reminds me of the previous wet or dry campus. Going local I believe is a good thing because the business in your neighborhoods always have what you want, and just like any business they are there to help and satisfy their customers. With the economy the way it is many businesses are going out of business, because people go elsewhere spend more than they were suppose to at other stores, when you have one in your neighborhood, and if you show your face get to know the owner, I bet you can get discounts on goods. With starbucks using an local unbranded that just justify that you can go to your local neighborhood and get the same thing that you would purchase at starbucks. Its not always about the brand name it’s the quality.

Out of all four of these the one that I feel personally that would be a great topic to debate about would most definitely be the women stereotype. Because in the article it has great valuable points!
